We've made it!

Our 'Walk of Ages' didn't take us ages at all as, in a mere 20 days, the choir members have chalked up the 688.96 miles needed to make it all the way from Canterbury to Helensburgh, 'arriving' at our own home parish church.

We do hope you have enjoyed sharing our virtual journey with us as much as we have enjoyed taking part in the challenge.

Our aim, however, wasn't just to have fun, but to raise as much money as we can for MacMillan Cancer Support. We want to thank everyone who has generously given to our cause and ask anyone else who is able, to consider making a donation through our Virgin Money Giving page.


The Choir intend to take advantage of the easing of some restrictions to gather together on Sunday afternoon to take one final stretch of our legs in walking locally from the Pier to Helensburgh Parish Church in the Square. 

It will be an emotional reunion for us all as, although we have faithfully met together each week for the last 63 weeks, our meetings have been through a virtual platform only - so this final 'leg' will not only mark the completion of our Walk of Ages Challenge but also the first gathering we have had as a Choir in over 14 months! And with the news, this week, that some singing is permitted outside, you may also hear the strains of our voices joining together in the church garden around 4.30pm with a verse or two of 'Rock of Ages', if you happen to be walking past yourself!

Musical memories from the heart of London

 Three days in and we'd clocked up the 55.3 miles required to take us to St. Paul's. Here's a little piece about our most recent stop by our Director of Music, Derek Clark. St Paul's is London's Cathedral, being the seat of the Bishop of London. The present building, the masterpiece of the architect Sir Christopher Wren, dates from the 1670s and is the fifth church dedicated to St Paul to be built on this site (the first dated from 674AD). All four of the previous buildings were destroyed by fire - indeed, it was as a result of the general rebuilding following the Great Fire of London in 1666 that Wren was awarded the commission for a new cathedral. All that remains of any of the older buildings is a memorial effigy (now situated in the South Choir Aisle) of the English poet and mystic John Donne, who was Dean of the cathedral from 1621 until his death ten years later.
